CHP 9 :- Cursed Eyes

Staring at the dark night from the balcony of 'Rambagh Palace' I enjoyed smoking my cigarette.

The chaos was still going on downstairs but I don't give a flying fuck about it.

The chaos felt a bit soothing balm to my lifeless & burning heart.

I fucking enjoyed the terror on Rashmi's face. The fear of getting killed was crystal clear on her face.

I felt some--peace in my aching heart, seeing the afraid face of the women who betrayed my mother 15 years ago.

I glared at the dark night sky as I released the smoke from my lips and nose.

But I ain't satisfied.

I want to see Rashmi Jaiswal's face covered in pure fear.

Fear of losing her life any moment.

And I will make sure that she fucking feel the 'ugly fear' of getting killed any time of her life.

Sukoon chinn lugi mai, jisne maira sukoon chinn liya hai woh bhee ek-ek kar ke.

(I will snatch the peace of those who have snatched my peace that too, one-by-one)

Shuruwat Rashmi Jaiswal se ho chuki hai.

(It started with Rashmi Jaiswal)

I heard footsteps approaching me and I glanced at my side just to see the man who I met a while ago standing there while looking at the sky as well.

There was a complete silence. I just continued to smoke. Maybe he wasn't here to initiate a conversation with me and just to have fresh air. But I was proved wrong when he did speak.

Man being man duh !

"Can I use the lighter ?"

I glanced at him who waved the cigarette which he took from my case where other cigarettes layed. I had kept my lighter & cigarette packet on the broad railing.

"Shouldn't you ask before touching my thing ? Mr.Rajavanshi." I voiced out coldly only to hear a chuckle in return.

"My bad..Miss.Chauhan so can I touch your things ?" He asked as he leaned his back on the railing and faced me.

"No." I denied firmly without glancing at him.

"Thank you for the lighter." He said, totally ignored my rejection and using my lighter to lit the ciggerate.

I rolled my eyes. Bastard !

We both smoked in silence. Before he decided to break it again.

"I have never seen someone so calm as you Miss.Chauhan." He said with a deep chuckle.

"What do you mean ?" I asked. I know where it was going still I pretend.

"Your father & soon-to-be step mother almost got killed a min ago and here you are....smoking so calmly." He voiced out as he stared at me while releasing the smoke.

"My reaction doesn't matter to anyone here so it doesn't matter to you as well Mr.Rajvanshi." I said, firmly.

He chuckled, dryly. "Right but I am a curious man when it comes to beautiful things..Miss.Chauhan."

"Sometimes, beautiful things turn out to be dangerous things as well. So you shouldn't be so curious..Mr.Rajvanshi." I replied, dryly.

"Miss.Chauhan..I love to play with dangerous things as well still thanks for showing your concern for me." He said, a playful smirk on his damn handsome face.

I scoffed as I looked him in his black eyes. "You clearly misunderstood my words Mr.Rajvanshi. I ain't showing any concern for you. You are no one to me that I will show you any type of concern."

The moment I ended my words I saw his black eyes going more black and his jaws going tight.

Was he getting angry ? Good then.

"You are no one to me."

Her words replayed in my mind like a fucking tape recorder.

How dare she say that to me ?

I feel my insides burning with a strange wild fire. I was fucking mad at her for saying I am nothing to her. It irked me to no bounds knowing she considers me no one to her.

Now, I promise myself that I will become from her 'no one' to be the 'only one' she all knows.

I will become her one for whom she will wake up every single day. I will become the one who she needs in her life like a person needs oxygen to live. I will become the only one who she can't live without.

Even if she doesn't want--I will become her everything. Every damn little thing and I will make my words true.

"Well, you are right I shouldn't expect any concern from someone who can't show any concern to her own father."

I saw her green eyes going a bit darker as they glared at me.

Bingo ! I hit the right nerve. I smirked.

"Mind your words Mr.Rajvanshi." she snapped. I raised my eyebrows as I voiced out.

"I assume you are offended by my words Miss.Chauhan."

She rolled her pretty green eyes at me before looking away.

Fuck ! I want to grab her hair, pull her closer to me and kiss her until she rolls her eyes like that. I bet she will like that more along with me.

Soon. Aviraaj soon. You will do what you are thinking. I remind myself.

"Tell me something about you ?" I asked like I didn't have her whole bio report inside my drawer.

"There is nothing that I want to tell you." She replied without looking in my way.

"Such a liar you are Miss.Chauhan. I am damn sure there are a lot of things that you can tell me." I prompted as I inhale & exhale the smoke.

I don't know but I am finding her a lot freaking sexy while she is just smoking, casually.

Smoking together--not bad for a one-to-one first conversation.

"Even if there was I won't be sharing anything with you Mr.Rajvanshi." Her voice was firm.

Oh baby ! You are going to share everything with me in the future.

I thought while hiding my smirk from her.

"I see, you are a secretive person." I voiced out, staring at her who tucked her single hair strand behind her ear.

I want to do that for her. Only one that will do that for her.

"But I am a good secret keeper. I will keep your secrets safe with me so you can share with me Miss.Chauhan." I said, deeply.

I wasn't lying. Anything related to her will be safe with me. No doubt in that.

After all, I should be the only one who  should have known with her every single secret. No matter how small, big or dark it is.

Everyone has a dark secret I am sure she has one too or maybe more than one. I myself have too many dark secrets which are hidden from the world.

Good secret keeper ? I want to laugh at those three words.

I knew better not to believe in his words or anyone saying that they will keep my secret safe with them.

Trust me, people nowadays will know your secret then fucking blackmail you with them for their own benifits.

I have experienced this so I knew it well except that the one who blackmailed me doesn't exist in this world anymore.

"Thanks but no." I denied, coldly.

"As you say but just know secrets cannot be hidden for too long." He voiced out.

"Who knows I will discover one of your secrets soon. I am quite good at that work...Miss.Chauhan."

I looked at him to see him already looking at me with a smirk.

"I would like to see how good you are at that work...Mr.Rajvanshi." I said back with a smirk as well.

"Are you by chance challenging me ?" He asked, as he raised an eyebrow.

"Who knows." I said, as I shrugged my shoulders.

He chuckled. "Challenge accepted Miss.Chauhan."

I stared at him who stared back. A strange intensity reappeared in his jet black eyes.

Does he stare at everyone with that strange gaze or does it become strange only when it comes to me ? I wondered.

"You have beautiful eyes." He suddenly said. His jet black eyes were firmly stuck on my green eyes. My ears found his compliment genuine.

"I know." I replied instead of a 'thx' I was aware of my eyes being beautiful. Why wouldn't they be ? They were replicas of my mumma's after all. Indeed they are the most beautiful.

My mother & I shared the same green eyes. Beautiful & unique.

But my so-called grandmother called them 'cursed eyes'

Flashback

My 8 year old self was playing with her toys while sitting on the sofa which was present in the living room.

My little self caught one of the maid ladies descending the stairs. I smiled at her who smiled back and I went back to my playing with the toys.

But suddenly I heard a scream. I flinched and looked in the direction where it came from only to see that maid lady at the end of the stairs with a wound on her head.

My 8 year old self ran in her direction, to help her.

"Aap theek ho ?" I said trying to make her sit properly.

(Are you okay ?)

Just then my grandmother entered while asking in irritation.

"Kya hua ? Kyu chila rahe ho huh ?"

(What happened ? Why are you shouting huh ?)

"B-Badi-sa woh mai s-seediyo se niche ghir gayee." The maid lady said while holding her bleeding head.

(Badi-sa I actually fell down from the stairs)

"Kaise par--" My grandmother's eyes fell on me and her eyes hardened.

(But how--)

"Kya tumai iss ladki ne seediyo se niche uthar te huae dekha tha ?" Sushila devi asked, out of sudden.

(Did this girl see you coming downstairs ?)

"H-Ha badi-sa par--" My grandmother cut her off.

(Y-Yes badi-sa but--)

"Isliye tum itni buri tarah seediyo se niche ghir gayee."

(That's why you fell so badly from the stairs)

"Yeh aap kya bol rahe hai badi-sa ?" The maid aunty asked, confused.

(What are you trying to say badi-sa)

Meanwhile, my 8 year old self was scared knowing what my dadi was indicating.

"P-Please n-no--" My grandmother cut me off as well.

"Aey ladki ek dam chup. Pehle toh tune apni iss manoos ankho se iss bichari ko dekh kar seediyo se niche ghira diya fir mujse se jaban lada thee hai." My dadi seethed and I saw pure hatred in her eyes for me.

(Aey..girl be quiet. First you throw this poor girl down the stairs by looking at her with your cursed eyes and then you argue with me)

"Badi-sa kya aap such bol rahe hai ?" The maid lady said while snatching her hand away from my hold.

My little self vigorously shook her head as a 'no' as tears ran down her face.

"Ha mai such bol rahe hu. Tumhe bata ho ki tum achanak se seediyo se kaise ghir gayee ? Tum sirf is ladki ki wah jase ghir ho kyu ki is ne tumhe apni manhoos nazar se dekh liya." My grandmother said while pointing a finger at me, accusing me for something I never did.

(I am saying right. Tell me how you suddenly fell from the stairs ? You fall down just because this girl looked at you with her cursed eyes)

"N-Nhi maine aisa k-kuch nhi kiya hai." I said sobbing but it went to deaf ears. The maid aunty believed my grandmother's cruel words and looked at me with scared eyes like she was afraid that I would really curse her with my eyes.

(N-no I didn't do a-anything)

Flashback Ends

That maid lady spread this rumour that whoever I looked at--something bad will happen to them and from then on every staff in the house used to run away from me.

They believed my so-called grandmother's words that I have 'cursed eyes' and I will curse them.

Every worker in Chauhan Mansion who used to smile at me whenever I smiled at them stopped doing that as well.

In short, they would refuse to look at me in the eyes, thinking they would get cursed by me.

I looked away from his black eyes and felt myself angry & hurt.

At one point, my little self believed those words as well and locked her self in her room so no one could get cursed.

My mumma when she got to know what was roaming around the house. The first thing she did was fire all the staff except Savita kaki then confronted my grandmother.

My mumma said. "My daughter's eyes aren't cursed, instead her eyes are beautiful and unique. She is blessed to have those green eyes. So I dare you say something like that to my daughter again.I won't tolerate it."

That day too my mumma slept with me in my room because Sushila Devi complained to her son and instead of arguing back with his mother--my father argued with his wife.

My father doesn't have any problem if someone calls his daughter's eyes cursed. How ironic !

The thought itself hurt so much to my 8 year old self back then but not anymore.

Instead I will now really curse each one of them who has cursed my life.

We were sharing such an intense but beautiful eye contact but I felt she had lost somewhere and then suddenly she looked away from my eyes.

Why would she do that ?

Her face depicts anger &...hurt ?

I knew something was bothering her just by her sudden change in behaviour and I wanted to end her bothering.

I opened my mouth to ask but was cut off by my phone ringtone.

Now who has a death wish ?

I greeted my teeth as I took my phone out and my eyes darkened seeing the caller id.

'Digvijay Singh Rajvanshi' aka my namesake father.

Why was he calling me now ? He knows I don't want to talk to him.

I declined his call and kept my phone inside and tried to ask again but my phone rang again interrupting me.

I clenched my jaws in irritation as I took my phone out and was going to cut the call when I heard her voice.

"Pick it up Mr.Rajvanshi. It might be important."

"It is not Miss.Chauhan. Neither the call or the person who is calling." I said coldly and declined the call and kept it inside my pocket.

I wasn't lying. I was saying the truth. That man wasn't important to me.

"If you say so." She said before crushing her cigarette under her heel and taking another cigarette to smoke.

I folded my arms around my chest as I stared at her who was looking so beautiful as her long shiny hair was blown freely by the air.

To be honest, I have never felt so much serenity around me.

After so long, I was feeling an emotion which I almost forgot from my hectic days and that is....peace.

Yeh humari sukoon ban chuki hai.

(She has become that peace to me)

Aur hum yeh sukoon ko apne se dur nhi jaane denge. Hum iss sukoon aur sukoon dene waali ko apne pass he rakhenge.

(And we will not let this peace go away from us. We will keep this peace and comfort that gives us with us)

Aur jo humare sukoon ko humse chheenane kee koshish karega, hum usse na sukoon se marne denge nahi shaanti se jeene denge.

(And the one who will try to snatch my peace I will not let them die or live in peace)

I thought to myself as my eyes raked her heavenly face which glowed marvelously under the moonlight.

I was envious of the moonlight. They were able to touch her skin. I want to replace those moon rays with me.

Soon I will.

My phone rang once again and I want to seriously kill the person who disturbed my peace session.

I took out my phone and glance at it just to see Saransh's name.

"Excuse me." I said and walked a bit away from her.

"This better be fucking important Saransh or else you know what happens to those who goes against my order which you fucking did." I said, darkly the moment I picked up the call.

"I-It is important Sir. We need to leave right now." Saransh's urgent voice came. I frowned but took a deep breath, greeting my teeth.

"Ready the car. I am coming." I hang up and walked back to her.

"It was nice to have a chat with you Miss.Chauhan but sadly I need to leave right now. Hope we will meet again."

Minus the 'hope' word. I will do everything in my power that will lead us to meet each other again & again.

"Hold up Mr.Rajvanshi." I said as I turned to side to look at him.

"Let me clear this--there is no need for us to meet each other again. I don't know what business you have with my father but you surely don't have any type of business with me." I said, firmly.

He raised his eyebrow and shrugged as he tucked his hands in his pants pockets before saying.

"We don't need business to see each other Miss.Chauhan. I am always available for you."

A hint of playfulness was in his jet black eyes but his tone was serious.

"But I am not available for you Mr.Rajvanshi." I stated, coldly.

He chuckled. "No worries. I will get your appointment for myself. I heard you are a criminal lawyer by profession and very excellent at your job so I assume our interaction will be mostly possible."

"I will see then Mr.Rajvanshi because at the end of the day I decide if I want to work on the case or not." I said, my voice held the underlined message for him.

He looked at me with an unknown gaze before nodding his head before looking away chuckling.

"As you say Miss.Chauhan."

Suddenly he leaned near my left ear but I didn't lean back and I heard him whispering in my ear slowly.

"You are a tough woman...Anamika Chauhan."

Fuck--my name sound so sexy when he called out with his deep, manly voice.

"Trust me, but I am a man who is attracted to tough things or...a person nonetheless."

He wasn't too close to me but still I was feeling his slight breath on my skin which irked me, badly.

He stood straight back and with a lingering gaze he turned his back to me and started to walk away.

I watched as he entirely disappeared from my sight and I finally relieved a sigh of normal breath.

I found myself looking down from the balcony where a sleek black car standing then I saw him walking near that car.

A man, apparently his secretary opened the door for him but before entering he suddenly looked back & up and his black eyes crashed with mine.

I smoked as I didn't move my eyes away from him.

A small smirk appeared on his damn good-looking face and with a last stare he entered his car and drove away.

One thing I knew I need to be away from him. He is too much for my liking.

I looked up at the sky as I released the smoke.

I am here for a reason and I need to focus on that instead of a man who is an epitome of both cockiness & undeniable attraction.

A heavy air was all around the living room of 'Chauhan Mansion'

Anyone can tell the noticeable tension which was lingering in the environment.

Prithviraj Chauhan sat quietly on the couch. His face avoids any expression.

Rashmi's small scratches are being treated by her daughter, Tara.

Sushila Devi walked back & front with an angry face.

Meanwhile, Rahul was observing everyone, silently. He knew something was going to happen.

Suddenly they all heard the clicking sound of the heels and everyone looked in the direction knowing well who was coming.

Anamika appeared and everyone's eyes stuck on her.

Anamika with confident steps walked ahead as she took a direct seat in front of her father.

"My apologies, I was stuck in traffic so got little late to come." Anamika said, casually. She crossed her legs one above the other as she felt her grandmother's heated gaze which she royally ignored.

"For what did you call me here..padre ?" Anamika asked.

"Tum ache se jaanti ho ki tumai yaha pe kyu bulaya gaya hai toh yeh apna natak bandh karo." Sushila Devi snapped.

(You know very well why you have been called here so stop your drama)

Anamika looked at her grandmother with a blank face.

"Mai nhi jaanti aap kis baare mai baath kar rahi hai."

(I don't know what you are talking about)

"Hum sabh ko pata hai ki woh jhumar girane mai tumara haath hai." Sushila Devi said glaring at Anamika.

(We all know that it was your hand behind the falling of that chandelier)

"Dadi-sa sahi keh rahe hai. Tumne maire maa ko marne ki koshish ki hai." Tara accused, angrily.

(Grandma-you are right. You tried to kill my mother)

"Aap logo ke pass kya saboot hai ? ki maine yeh sabh kiya hai." Anamika calmly inquired.

(What proof do you guys have that I did all this ?)

Sushila devi & Tara glanced at each other knowing they don't have any proof.

"I see, you both don't have one so how can you put a false claim on me ? That's unfair." Anamika voiced out as she shook her head.

"Yeh ladki hume kisi saboot ki zarurat nhi hai. Hum jaante hai agar kisi ko iss shaadi se problem hai toh woh sirf aur sirf tumai hai." Sushila Devi firmly said.

(Hey, girl we don't need any proof. We know if anyone has a problem with this marriage, it is only you)

"Dadi-sa is right. We don't need proof to prove that you are behind this  incident." Tara said, smirking but frowned when Anamika in return just chuckle, humourlessly.

"Tara know this--you can't say anything that is on your mind and claimed that you are right." Anamika voiced out, mocking.

"Besides if I do really have a problem with this marriage I won't be silently sitting here in front of you all instead I would have created a drama in front of everyone in the party earlier." Anamika stated, her voice with no hint of humour.

"Tumne drama toh kar diya hai. Woh jhumar ko ghira kar. Toh yeh apni jhooti baathe bol kar tum hum sabh ko nhi batka sakti ho." Sushila Devi greeted out with rage.

(You have already created a drama by dropping the chandelier. So you cannot fool us by telling lies)

"Arey re fir aap jhoota ilzam mujh par laga rahe hai. Jabh mujhe iss shaadi se kohi aitraaz he nhi hai fir mai kyu iss shaadi ki rokhne ki koshish karugee ?" Anamika voiced out, innocently.

(Hey, you are again accusing me falsely. When I have no objection to this marriage, then why would I try to stop it ?)

"Tum---" Sushila cut off by her son aka Prithviraj who finally spoke up having enough of the ongoing drama.

(You----)

"Enough !!" Prithviraj stood up making Rahul, Tara & Rashmi stand as well except for Anamika who was still comfortably sitting on the couch.

"No one will speak now except for her." Prithviraj said, pointing his index finger towards Anamika who calmly looked at her father in the eyes.

"I will ask you once Anamika and know if I got to know that you lied to me--you will face serious consequences." Prithviraj said in hard voice.

Everyone knew he wasn't joking. He will do as he said. Anamika smiled coldly as she said.

"Go ahead..Padre."

"Was it your hand behind the earlier incident ? Did you plan this all ?" Prithviraj inquired as his old black eyes bored in his daughter's green ones.

Anamika stood up as she walked close to her father and stood right in front of him.

"No." Anamika lied, smoothly while staring deep in her father's eyes like once her father used to do it with her mother...15 years ago.

Prithviraj eyes scanned Anamika's face trying to find a hint that will tell him that she was lying to him but he finds none so he believed her single word.

"Okay." Prithviraj said nodding his head.

"Beta Prithvi tum iss ladki ki baath kaise mann sakte ho ?" Sushila Devi asked his son in disbelief.

(Prithvi son how can you believe in her words ?)

"Tum nhi jaante par yeh ladki ek number ki jhooti hai. Tum iski baatho mai mat aao." Sushila Devi said, trying to make her son believe in her words.

(You don't know but this girl is a number one liar. Don't believe in her words)

"Maa bhas kijiye agar woh keh rahe hai ki usne nhi kiya hai toh matlab usne nhi kiya hoga." Prithviraj said making Sushila Devi shocked.

(Mom enough. If she is saying that she didn't do it then it means she didn't do it)

Why not ? This was the first time her son didn't believe her words.

'Wonderful' Anamika thought while a hidden smirk played on her lips seeing the stunned face of her so-called grandmother.

Sushila Devi's eyes went to Anamika as she glared hard at her.

"Tum-Tum maire bete ko bewakuf bana sakti ho nekin mujhe nhi. Mai ache se jaanti hu ki tumara he haath hai inn sabke piche." Sushila devi spat in pure anger.

(You-you can fool my son but not me. I know very well that you are behind all this)

"Jaisa aapko sochna hai sochiye mujhe kohi farak nhi padta hai." Anamika deadpanned.

(Think as you want, it doesn't matter to me)

"Manhoos ankhe hai tumari isliye toh yeh hatsa huaa hai. Mai dawe ke saath ke sakti hu ki tumne apni manhoos ankho se maire hone waali bahu ko dekha hoga isliye uss par woh jhumar ghir gaya hoga."

Sushila Devi stated firmly as she her old eyes looked at Anamika with disgust.

(Because of your cursed eyes this all happened. I can say this that you must have seen soon-to-be daughter-in-law with your evil eyes that's why that chandelier fell on her)

Anamika's eyes darkened but she smiled coldly and Sushila Devi felt a shiver ran down in her old spine seeing that smile.

"Aap ki soch aaj bhee badli nhi hai...dadi-sa. Kitna galat soch thee hai aap maire baare mai."

(Your thoughts haven't changed at all...grandma. You thought so wrong about me)

"Maire ankhe manhoos hoti toh aaj tak bhot saare log mar jaate Nekin woh log aaj tak zinda hai." Anamika stated so calmly that her grandmother gulped.

(If my eyes were really cursed then many people would have died by now, but they are still alive today)

Before Sushila Devi can say anything Rashmi said.

"Maa-sa jaane dijiye. Aap shaant hojaye please."

(Mom leave it. Please calm down)

Rashmi walked towards Anamika as she said.

"You might not like me Anamika but I know you can never try to kill me." Rashmi said with a small smile.

Anamika wanted to laugh in her words knowing that the women in front of her was trying to stay in 'good books' of her father.

"Mom are you seriously believing in her words like dad did ? Can't you see is clearly acting to be innocent here whereas she is a cunning bitch." Tara spat.

"Tara behave. Anamika is going to be your sister." Rashmi said sternly.

"Correction mom. Step-sister you mean." Tara said back only to receive a glare from her mother.

"Still a sister Tara so talk carefully with her. Am I clear ?" Rashmi warned with a smile as Prithviraj was watching her.

"Yes mom." Tara greeted out with clenched fist.

"Good." Rashmi said and turned to look at Anamika.

"Don't take her words seriously Anamika. She is just a child." Rashmi said sweetly.

"I know. I am sensible enough to not take a child's nonsense words to my heart." Anamika replied in the same sweet but cold tone.

Tara glared at Anamika before saying. "I am done. I am going to my room."

Tara turned around and started to leave the room. Meanwhile, Rahul who was busy looking at Anamika flinched when he heard his girlfriend's loud voice.

"RAHUL COME WITH ME !!"

"Y-Yes baby c-coming. Excuse me everyone." Saying this Rahul walked out as well.

"It's getting late I should sleep as well. Tomorrow I need to talk with pandit ji regarding the marriage date of...me & Prithvi." Rashmi said, smiling.

Anamika clearly got the hidden mocking which was directed towards her in Rashmi's words.

"Sure. Sleep well who knows you might be unable to sleep that well in upcoming days." Anamika said, mysteriously making Rashmi's smile vanished.

"What ?" Rashmi asked, frowning.

Anamika shook her head. "I mean due to wedding preparation you will be unable to sleep so sleep soundly for now...at least."

Rashmi heart thumped in an unknown fear hearing Anamika' words. She knew there was an underlined message for her in Anamika''s words but not want to appear as a bad person in her soon-to-be husband's eyes she just nodded in return with a tight smile and leave the room as well.

Sushila Devi also left after throwing a glare at Anamika. Now, it was just the father & daughter alone.

"I guess I should leave as well." Saying this Anamika turned and started to walk but she heard her father's cold voice.

"I won't let go this matter so easily. I will investigate whose hand was behind this incident."

"So I hope what you said to me is absolutely the truth because if I find out that you lied to me on my face--"

Prithviraj's voice dropped down to colder ice as he said.

"I will make sure you will know who your father is really...Anamika."

My feet ceased and without turning back I replied to Prithviraj Chauhan.

"You don't need to show me who you really are...padre. I am very well aware of who my dear father is."

"Good luck with your investigation. Do let me know if you find the culprit. As I am a lawyer I will help you to punish that culprit." I said as I resumed my walk.

"Only if you succeed in finding that culprit in the first place...my dearest padre." I whispered to myself as I felt the heated gaze of my father on my back.

It's hilarious that he thinks he can catch the culprit who is walking away from his sight right now.
